About Us

Two decades of decoding human behavior

Our Story

In 2004, Steve Sisler was a house painter. As the owner of The Dreamkote Corporation, a custom painting company in Massachusetts, he had a peculiar problem: clients kept paying him to sit down and help them work through their family or business issues instead of painting their walls. Finally, his wife said, "Honey, you need to get paid to talk with people." He was skeptical, but he trusted her instinct.

So from the basement of a 1904 Victorian farmhouse, armed with only a high school education, ADHD, and low self-esteem, Steve launched The Behavioral Resource Group. There was no business plan, no investors, no credentials on the wall. Just an uncommon ability to see people clearly and a stubborn refusal to accept that human problems in the workplace were unsolvable.

Since that basement beginning, Steve has authored 23 books, spoken around the world as a thought leader in behavioral science and axiology, and worked with hundreds of companies across the United States and 18 countries.

Today, BRG employs a team of analysts, including two of Steve's own children, and has built one of the most comprehensive behavioral databases in the industry, with over 60,000 profiles analyzed. What started with a painter who listened too well became a firm that helps organizations finally understand their people. And if you look closely at the photo, you'll spot a toy rhino and a lamp that still sit on Steve's desk today, along with a picture of his young daughter Hannah in the upper left corner, who now serves as BRG's head of operations.
